Budget Cuts Impacting Garrett Park: Please Act!

We have bad news to share. Due to MCPS budget cuts Garrett Park is slated to lose a kindergarten section and a 1st grade section next school year. Classes next year will swell to 25-26 kids in a class. Please consider signing this petition to urge the board to take other steps to address the budget issues.

If you can, please also email County Council members directly to ask them for more funding for MCPS. You can find their email addressses here

You can also help by spreading the word in your neighborhoods and communities  about kindergarten registration. We ask that families with rising kindergarteners please enroll now. They can register online. If more families enroll at GPES, we may be able to avoid losing our sections!

Important Dates

Wait Until 8th! Sign the Pledge

Garrett Park parents have been discussing the harms caused by social media and smart phones on kids' mental health.

Many Garrett Park parents have signed the pledge to delay giving their child a smart phone until 8th grade or later. You can join them and sign the pledge.

Please note that the pledge is for parents of children of all ages (not just 5th grade).

Thank you!

Garrett Park Recognized as a Maryland Green School!

Thanks to the hard work of the GPES staff, administration and the PTA Green Committee, GPES is now recognized as a Maryland Green School. GPES is now part of a national and international community working to create a more sustainable future. Each year GPES students will develop a greater understanding of their local environment and use their voice and leadership skills to encourage others to recycle and compost, plant vegetables and native plants, using refillable water bottles to reduce plastic waste, and be more mindful of simple steps like turning off unnecessary lights.

This is a huge accomplishment! Read more here
