Letter from the PTA President
As we enter the frenetic last six weeks of the school year, our GPES PTA is sponsoring two school-wide events–one new and one a long-standing tradition–that we hope you and your families will enjoy.
Boosterthon is an experience
that combines a fun fitness event, an interactive character program, and the
chance to raise muchneeded funds for our school. There is nothing to sell
and no going door-to-door. Students help their school simply by gathering pledges from friends and family. The Boosterthon program lasts nine days and includes a pep rally and fun run, all taking place during school hours. We hope your children and your families will participate in this fundraising event beginning on May 16th.
Please also mark your calendars for our annual Spring Fair, which will be held on Saturday, June 9th
from 10 am to 2 pm at our school. Although we will not have a plant or toy sale this year, our PTA will have a
children’s book sale to coincide with our “Year of the Book” theme. Many favorites will return including
moon bounces, games and the cakewalk!
A special thank you goes out to Abby Cohen, Michele Derogatis, Heather Down and Amy Dutko for stepping up to organize our Spring Fair.
I also want to take a moment to personally thank the parents who have chaired events and programs or who
participated as members of the board in 2011-2012:
Carol Alderson, Jennifer Argabright, Patty and Jamie Carmen, Abby Cohen, Dina Cohen Gruber, Michele
Derogatis, Nicole and Paul Doria-Rose, Amy Dutko, Wendy Ellman, Sheryl Friedlander, Natalie Grande, Dawn
Harris, Kathy Hedge, Patty Hickey, Jean Horan, Karin Jegalian, Liz King, Mee Knystautas, Heather Lazott
Swetlow, Tracy Liden, Angie Melton, Beth Morgenstern, Kelly Opipari, Crystal Pierson, Anita Polott, Anne
Puglisi, Krista Reilly, Gloria Sanchez, Molly Shuck, Bridget Silverman, Suzanne Stievater and Stacy Zayas.
Our staff, our students and our school are not only grateful for your ideas and energy, but also for your time and your dedication to GPES. So am I. Thank you!

The Spring Fair will be held on Saturday, June 9th from 10 am to 2 pm. We are so excited to have this long-standing GPES tradition at our
brand new school! In order to make the fair a success, we need volunteers. We already have four people chairing the event, and we are now looking for volunteers to take on small jobs related to the Spring Fair.
If you are able to help, please contact me, Mrs. Heather Down (1st grade
teacher), by sending your name, email address, and phone number to heatherdown611@gmail.com or by calling the school to leave me a message. If you are going to be out of town on the actual date of the Spring Fair but would still like to help, we have
some jobs that will be done in advance of the fair. Thank you, and we look forward to having a blast at the Spring Fair!

The Boosterthon Fun Run is just
around the corner, and we can’t wait.
This program combines physical
fitness and leadership development
and teaches kids that fitness can be
fun. T
he Boosterthon program kicks
off at GPES on May 16 with an
energetic pep rally and culminates on
May 25 with the fun run in the afternoon.
During the nine days of the program, Boosterthon team members will be visiting the school and speaking with teachers and students about this year’s theme, EPIC Adventure. EPIC stands for Experience, Play, Invite and Character. The key to the success of
this program is for students to get pledges toward the number of laps they will run at the Boosterthon Fun Run. Regardless of pledges raised, every
student can participate in the fun run, and every student receives the Boosterthon t-shirt.
Family members are welcome to
come out on May 25 to cheer on
the kids during the run, which starts at 2 pm. We hope to see you there!
