Before- and After-School Programs for Spring 2020!

Dear Garrett Park Families,

Your Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is pleased to sponsor before- and after-school enrichment programs for Garrett Park Elementary School students.

These are optional, fee-based programs open to all students. Programs take place at Garrett Park Elementary School. Please review the attached schedule of classes being offered Spring 2020.

The Garrett Park Elementary School PTA has selected Kaizen Management Program to oversee these programs.  Kaizen has extensive experience working with elementary schools and vendors to offer before- and after-school programs to children.  Kaizen provides an on-site coordinator to ensure the safety of the children and coordination among classes and parents.


  • Registration will close at noon on Friday, January 31.

  • Classes will begin on February 10, 2020 and will run for 12 weeks.

  • Classes cancelled because of unexpected school closure or teacher cancellation will be made up; Every effort will be made for each class to have 12 sessions.

Program Summaries

Beginner Spanish (Grades 2-5) - New topics & themes ! Open a window to another culture, communicate in a new language and make discoveries. Build practical Spanish language skills in a fun, immersion setting. Learn cultural notes, describe, ask and answer questions, count, sing, compare, identify, play lively games and activities – all en español! Favorite Winter Session topics include sports & hobbies, farm animals, the alphabet and vowels, breakfast foods and more! Workbook included. Classes are for both new beginners and continuing beginner students! 

Chess (Grades K-5) - Students will learn how to play chess, the basic of chess endings, and chess strategies. Beginner and Intermediate classes available.

Karate (Grades K-5) - This class is designed for all belt levels. Karate classes focuses on instruction, as well as discipline, motivation, self-control, and continual improvement.

Run Club (Grades 1-5) - Teaches proper running techniques and basic running fundamentals. Warm ups, stretches, drills, and games are designed to help develop students’ speed and endurance and provide a fun, safe environment for running.

Scratch (Grades K-5) - Coders will learn to create stories, games, and animations using a visual programming language called Scratch. The children will be introduced to fundamental programming concepts while learning to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically.  

Introductory Spanish (Grades K-1) - New theme! Let’s start speaking! A fun introduction to a new language where children learn and practice with storytelling, activities, puppets, games and songs in an immersion setting. Join us for La Gallinita Roja or The Little Red Hen, our Winter Session story! Classes are for both new students and continuing students! 

STEM (Grades K-5) - During STEM Quest & Adventures, students will participate in hands-on lessons and fun activities and explore real-world careers such as graphic and product designer, food scientist, archaeologist, or being an astronaut.

Yoga (Grades K-5) - Develops focus, flexibility, strength, and coordination through yoga poses, stories, songs, drawings, and games. Classes enhance energy while teaching children how to remain calm and centered. Children learn basic movements in a fun, relaxed setting.
