Dear GPES Families,

The 2011/2012 school year is fast approaching and with it comes many exciting changes to our communications! 

The GPES PTA is thrilled to bring you two new ways to stay linked to our school’s community.  We have launched a Facebook page and a Twitter account to keep us all notified of school-related events, closings, and status updates of the modernization.  Facebook and Twitter are social media but GPES PTA-sponsored sites are only informational sources.  To protect the privacy of our students, 3 PTA Board members have been designated as administrators and will be the only individuals with posting privileges.  To join, simply “like” Garrett Park Elementary School PTA on Facebook and on Twitter, follow GPESPTA to receive tweets to your Twitter feed.

As we take steps toward “going green” in the coming school year, more information than ever will be sent via our listserv and website.  Very few flyers will be coming home in students’ backpacks.  When the PTA does send one, look for our signature paper color: bright green!  So don't miss out on any news, subscribe today by sending a blank email to: GPESPTA-subscribe@yahoogroups.com 

As always, our website is a wealth of information and will be frequently updated.  You can find contact information for all of the PTA board members, a calendar of events, and lots more information.  Beginning this year, as we strive to be good to the environment and reduce printing costs, only the very first newsletter will be printed – the rest will be available electronically on our website and listserv. 

The GPES PTA has worked hard to outline a clear Media Policy with the foremost objective of protecting our children while broadening the way our community shares information.  Please review this policy on our website and adhere to our guidelines when posting to the Listserv.  Facebook and Twitter will not be open to postings.  Photos and videos may be uploaded periodically to the GPES PTA Facebook page and/or website.  It is the policy of GPES PTA to post NO photos of any children unless the EXPRESS permission has been granted from the parent/guardian.

You can look forward to our Directory in a brand new format this year.  The PTA has teamed with a local company to reduce both our costs and production efforts for our volunteers.  As a result, we are delighted to offer it free to all families – regardless of membership with the PTA! 

We hope you are all as excited as we are about these changes.  They are sure to be a great start to the new school year!
