Meredith Josef, President
Meredith Josef was raised in Houston, Texas but has lived in the Washington area since 1993. She works as a communications manager for the American Bar Association and also serves on Montgomery County's White Flint advisory board. Meredith and her husband, Brian, have one Garrett Park student, Ava Jane, in first grade. Their son, Asher, will join big sister at GPES in the fall of 2012.
Abby Cohen, Executive Vice-President
Abby Cohen has been involved at GPES since 2007. She has three kids—her son Will is in 3rd grade, her daughter Lilah is in kindergarten and the youngest, Asher, attends a local nursery school. Abby enjoys reading, running and spending time with family and friends.
Sheryl Friedlander, Vice-President / Memebership
Sheryl Friedlander is a second-generation Washingtonian who grew up in the MCPS system. Now she and her husband, David, are proud to have two children who are also reaping the rewards of the challenging, yet nurturing, environment of MCPS—Noah, a 7th grader, and Rafael, a 3rd grader. When Sheryl is not busy being a mom, she is a marketing and communications consultant and freelancer for various area nonprofits, and a cellist with several community performing groups.
Michele Derogatis, Vice-President Communications
Michele Derogatis and her husband, Jeff, have two children: Max in 1st grade and Conner, who will soon be attending GPES. She enjoys promoting early reading through her volunteer work at her sons’ school Book Fairs and spending weekends with her family at the beach.
Anita Polott, Secretary
Anita and her husband, Arthur, are proud parents of two boys, Sam (second grade) and Daniel, who is three and looking forward to starting kindergarten in GPES’ new building in the fall of 2012. When she is not being mom to Sammy and Daniel, Anita is a trademark and copyright lawyer for a private law firm in downtown DC.
Kelly Opipari, Vice-President Programs
Kelly Opipari has four children ages seven and under and currently she has Annabella in 2nd grade and Nick in kindergarten. Kelly volunteers with Delta Gamma Fraternity as an alumnae chapter president and collegiate advisor, Beta Theta Pi Fraternity in the northeast region, and with Girl Scouts of America. In her spare time she loves to read, swim, and spend time with her family. Kelly is also an educational tutor and teaches swim lessons.
Jennifer Argabright, MCCPTA Representative
Jennifer Argabright is the mother of 1st grader Josh Greenbaum and pre-K’r Max Greenbaum, and lives in the Timberlawn Community on the “other side” of Rockville Pike with her husband, Joel. She is also an attorney in the Compliance Division of the Office of General Counsel at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission where she tries to make the country safe for babies (and everyone else).
Carol Alderson, Treasurer
Carol has lived in Montgomery County her entire life. Carol and her husband, Bill, moved to Kensington in 2005. Her son, Chris, is in 6th grade and Elizabeth in 1st. Carol works at the National Insti- tutes of Health.
Dina Cohen Gruber, Vice-President, Fundraising
Dina Cohen Gruber and her husband, Jay, have lived in White Flint Park since 2000. They have two children, Charlotte (grade 4) and Gerry who graduated from GPES and is starting his first year at Tilden. In her other life, Dina is a Human Resource and Management Consultant for small sized companies.
Wendy Ellman, MCCPTA Representative
Wendy Ellman is mom to Sarah (grade 1) and Abby (future K 2013). She had her husband Eric have lived in the neighborhood for nearly 15 years. Wendy works in marketing for the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association.
